YMCA Green Market teaches kids gardening and values





For the past 2 years, the YMCA Summer Daze program, held throughout the summer at YMCA sites in Matawan and Hazlet, offers kids gardening one day a week as ...

The campers assist in weeding, planting and watering a large vegetable garden located behind the Matawan Center, and learning all about the patience it takes to grow a garden, how to plant, and the importance of good nutrition and healthy eating habits.

This year, in addition to learning about gardening, students at the Matawan Children's Achievement Center started running a “Green” Farmers Market once a week, each adopting a vegetable plant for the summer and then preparing and selling the vegetables they have grown to friends and family.
