A gardening legacy continues in Pittsford

There she would see a magnificent garden filled with flowers. However, she was not allowed to go inside the garden because it was guarded by a white picket ...

"Which of course made me want to go in even more," said Haywood, of Pittsford. "It just intrigued me as a child. From my grandmother to my mother and then to me, I have inherited the love of gardening."

What started as a slight interest blossomed into a full-blown hobby. Haywood has been part of the Pittsford Garden Club since 1991 after she retired as a nurse administrator. She's held every office other than treasurer and headed various projects.

The Pittsford Garden Club will turn 80 in June 2010 making it the second-oldest garden club in Monroe County next to the Rochester Garden Club.
